West Acton, MA — On Saturday, July 12, Congresswoman Niki Tsongas formally endorsed Jen Benson for State Representative at a rally in West Acton. Benson is running to represent the 37th Middlesex District in the Massachusetts State House which shares the towns of Acton, Boxborough, Harvard, Shirley and with the Fifth Congressional District represented by Congresswoman Tsongas.

The event took place at noon at the West Acton Monument and was well attended by over 30 supporters. Senator Pam Resor (D-Acton) introduced Benson. "We are so lucky to have such a well-qualified candidate running for this seat," said Resor. "Jen has the experience and persistence we need to represent our district."

Benson thanked Resor for her introduction and said how much she appreciated the endorsement of Congresswoman Tsongas. "The Congresswoman's dedication to working families and children has been an inspiration to me," said Benson. "Her commitment to our citizens was shown in her first vote in Congress which was to override the President's veto on the SCHIP program and provide much needed healthcare to our nation's children."

Tsongas began by remarking on Benson's background. "As the chair of the Lunenburg School Committee, Jen Benson has demonstrated her commitment to public education and will continue to be a dedicated advocate on this and other important issues as State Representative," said Congresswoman Niki Tsongas. "As Jen knows, education is the key to helping our children succeed, and is also vital to our economic future. I am proud to support her and look forward to working with her when she is elected to the State House."

Benson concluded by saying how important it is for young women, like her daughters, to have strong role models like Senator Resor and Congresswoman Tsongas. "I can point out Senator Resor and Congresswoman Tsongas to my daughters and tell them that you can be anything you want to be in our great country."

After the ceremony, Benson and supporters canvassed Acton's 4th precinct, knocking on doors and talking with voters. "I am trying to speak one-on-one with as many voters as I can," said Benson. "That's what the people in the district expect and deserve."
