March 23, 2009 — Press Release
BOSTON, MA - In order to best represent their constituents, Rep. Jennifer Benson, 37th Middlesex (D-Lunenburg) and Rep. Kate Hogan, 3rd Middlesex (D-Stow), met with Governor Patrick this week, to discuss their concerns with his proposed transportation reform plan. The representatives discussed the unique transportation challenges, such as regional equity and proposals to increase the state gas tax, facing North Central Massachusetts.
"I am very happy and impressed that the Governor was willing to hear directly my concerns with the transportation plan," said Rep. Benson. "He expressed his willingness in going forward to work on these issues and address the concerns of the people in the 37th Middlesex district."
Rep. Hogan added, "I represent a unique district, in that we do not have easy access to public transportation. I stressed regional equity to the Governor, and especially the need to take into account the unique needs of my district. I was pleased with his willingness to work with me on these issues."
The two representatives are also pleased to be collaborating on important policy issues. "These are complicated problems that we are facing, and the more that I can work together with my colleagues from similar districts who share my main priority of vigorously advocating for the best interest of my constituents, the better served all our communities will be" said Rep. Hogan.
Rep. Benson agreed, saying "regional collaboration is important, and when towns and Representatives can work together, then their message can be more loudly heard." Rep. Hogan represents Bolton, Hudson, Maynard and Stow, while Rep. Benson represents Acton (precincts 3,4,5), Boxborough, Harvard, Lancaster (precinct 1), Lunenburg, and Shirley.
Both representatives welcome and encourage the input of their constituents on these issues. Rep. Benson can be reached at 617.722.2130 and Rep. Hogan can be reached (617) 722-2060.
