BOSTON — State Representative Jennifer Benson joined her colleagues in the Massachusetts House of Representatives in passing legislation that reimburses cities and towns for expenses incurred from the special election.
"This is a tough economic time and towns can't afford unexpected expenses like the special election," said Benson. "Offering this reimbursement will help towns prevent further cuts this fiscal year."
The bill provides $7.2 million to cities and towns to cover costs of holding the special election.
The legislation also directs $2.1 million to the Department of Veterans' Services to reimburse towns for payments made to veterans, includes $200,000 for two families of public safety employees killed in the line of duty, and provides $9.5 million to the Workforce Training Fund.
