Restaurant Rejuvenation Act

July 1, 2010 — Benson works across the aisle on bi-partisan law to help Massachusetts restaurant industry

BOSTON — The Restaurant Rejuvenation Act was signed and became law yesterday. The law takes effect immediately and will allow restaurants to start serving alcohol at 10AM on Sunday. The previous law restricted service to start at noon.

Dave Andelman, the originator of the new law, stated upon its passing, "It is a proud day for restaurants, waiters, waitresses and consumers in Massachusetts. I would like to thank all those who played a roll in passing this legislation before the July 4th holiday weekend."

Dave added, "Specifically, we would like to thank and note the bipartisan sponsorship in the Senate of Senators Richard Tisei, Steven Panagiatakos, Jack Hart, and Robert Hedlund and in the State House of Representatives Jennifer Benson, Susan Williams Gifford, Jim Dwyer and Karyn Polito. We would also like to thank Governor Deval Patrick, Senate President Therese Murray, Speaker Robert DeLeo and all of the State Senators and Representatives who supported this efforts."

Dave continued on the expected benefits, "The new law will increase employment, income taxes, sales taxes, and meals taxes, without costing the government a single dollar. It will help the restaurant industry, which employees roughly 10% of the work force, fight the recession. We expect this to generate tens of millions of dollars per year for the state."

The Restaurant Rejuvenation Act was first conceived in February during the Andelman brothers' radio show. Dave Andelman, an attorney and MBA, has been successfully advising restaurants in their operations and promotion for the past seventeen years. Phantom Gourmet is on TV38 Saturday & Sunday 11AM and 96.9FM Boston Talks Saturday 4 to 7PM.
