Resor Endorses Benson at Campaign Kickoff
Sites Strong Experience in Local Government

June 17th, 2008 — State Senator Pam Resor (D-Acton) endorsed Jen Benson as candidate to represent the 37th Middlesex District in the State House at Benson's campaign kickoff reception Tuesday night at the Bull Run Restaurant in Shirley. Resor commended Benson for her strong record of leadership at the local level.

"Jen Benson has two characteristics that will serve her well in the legislature and those are patience and persistence," said Resor. "Without them, you are not going to get legislation passed."

Benson thanked Resor for her endorsement and spoke with passion about her desire to continue Resor's legacy of protecting the environment, improving public education, and promoting fiscal responsibility. "Senator Resor has been a model citizen and model legislator," Benson said. "Her example has shown that a local community leader can run for state office and make a real difference for the families of our commonwealth."

Lt. Governor Tim Murray (D-Worcester), a former Mayor of Worcester, also related to Benson as someone who came out of municipal government. "It is absolutely critical that we have people who understand local government, who understand what towns and public school districts have gone through over the last four to five years," said Murray. "I think Jen will bring that sense of urgency to state government because, as a local official, she has had to look her constituents in the eye when forced to do more with less at the town level."

The kickoff event was well attended by community leaders, voters and families who came to support Benson and her candidacy. Other officials at the reception included State Senator Robert Antonioni (D-Leominster), State Representative Jennifer Flanagan (D-Leominster), and State Representative Jamie Eldridge (D-Acton) who offered their support for Benson and her work towards better support for our towns, a clean environment, and quality, affordable healthcare.

Benson finished her remarks with a call to action. "Our campaign has gotten off to a great start," said Benson. "I have talked with hundreds of voters and heard about the issues facing our families and our towns, but I need your help to knock on doors, make calls and continue to reach out to the people of our district."

The reception was held at the Bull Run Restaurant in Shirley, a pre-Revolutionary tavern that has been run by the Guercio family of Shirley for more than 50 years. Chip Guercio owner of the Bull Run and Chair of the Shirley Board of Selectmen, acted as Master of Ceremonies.
