Continues on Education Committee, Becomes Vice-Chair of Personnel and Administration
January 29, 2011 — Press Release
BOSTON — State Representative Jen Benson of Lunenburg announced her committee assignments today after they were presented to House members at the State House yesterday. Benson will serve as Vice-Chair of the House Committee on Personnel and Administration and as a member of the Joint Committee on Education, the Joint Committee on Revenue, and the House Committee on Post Audit and Oversight.
"I am ready to hit the ground running during my second term and work to make a difference for people of the 37th Middlesex District," said Benson. "My top two priorities are to work to improve our economy and create jobs, and to ensure a quality education for the children of our Commonwealth."
The House Committee on Personnel and Administration is responsible for committee staffing and to facilitate training of members and staff. The House Committee on Post Audit and Oversight is an investigative body with subpoena power to investigate improprieties such as improperly awarded contracts.
"I look forward to continued work on improving education in Massachusetts on the Education Committee," said Benson. "While Massachusetts children are consistently ranking at or near the top in subjects like Science and Math, we need to continue to make sure that every child has the tools they need to succeed in today's increasingly competitive workplace environment."
The Joint Committee on Revenue is responsible for revenue and tax credits. "I campaigned on the need to reform corporate tax credits to make them more transparent," said Benson. "I will use my position on the Revenue Committee to make sure that we find out which corporate tax credits are improving our economy and creating jobs, and which ones should be eliminated, with the goal of providing an improved business climate for all companies in the Commonwealth."
