April 7, 2011 — Press Release
BOSTON — State Representative Jen Benson joined her colleagues in the Massachusetts House of Representatives and the Senate in passing legislation Thursday to authorize $200 million for the maintenance and upkeep of municipal roads and bridges across the Commonwealth.
"Our cities and towns will see a much needed increase in funding to repair their roads and bridges," said Benson. "After such a harsh winter, and considering the rising price of fossil fuels, this is a needed boost in state aid to help our communities keep up with road repair and maintenance."
The $200 million in road and bridge maintenance funds represent a 29% increase over the funding dispersed for the same purpose last year. Towns in the 37th Middlesex District will receive the following amounts: Acton — $677,680; Boxborough — $215,887; Harvard — $312,785; Lancaster — $316,605; Lunenburg — $426,148; Shirley — $251,563.
