September 30, 2010—The Beacon
We are supporting Jen Benson for state representative because she is a proven Representative with a commitment to serving our community. Jen has worked full time to protect local aid for our public schools. She has played a major role in advocating for consumer protection from large corporations (i.e. Unitil) while supporting the interests of local businesses that are so important to our quality of life here in Acton and Boxborough. Jen has also supported ethics, pension, and transportation reform on Beacon Hill and is clear in supporting a woman's right to choose.
In contrast, her opponent does not support a woman's right to make decisions about her own body. More disturbing, Kurt Hayes has voiced support for teaching creationism in our schools, threatening the excellence of our schools and the constitutionally protected separation of church and state. And, if elected, he would keep his current job at IBM and be a PART TIME State Representative. State Representative is a full time job with a full time paycheck.
Why should we elect a representative who will only work part time for our district?
How could Kurt Hayes protect the interests of constituents while he is still serving the interests for one of the world's largest corporations (a corporation that has many business contracts with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts)?
We want a representative who is committed to serving the needs of constituents by working FULL TIME, will protect the values of our community, and will support our excellent public schools. Jen Benson is that person, and we are asking you to vote for her on Nov. 2.
