To the Editor:
Jen Benson's work as our state representative clearly shows her deep, proven commitment to understanding and serving the needs of her constituents. She deserves our vote on Nov. 2.
Before Jen became our full-time, highly skilled representative, she paid her dues with years of significant voluntary and school committee work for her town and region.
Because she regularly attends Acton and Boxborough Town Meetings and selectman meetings, she respects, understands, and supports the work of local government.
Jen listens, studies, and constantly works to create jobs, help small businesses grow, reduce health costs, and strengthen our schools. She meets regularly with a group of selectman representatives from each town in our district, to discuss and solve common problems.
While her opponent deserves our thanks for his work to combat Lyme disease, he shows little interest in participating in town government, town meetings, or town voluntary opportunities, and he offers our district part time representation as he works for a large corporation.
Her opponent's party continues to support damaging tax-breaks for the rich, privatizing of Social Security, less funds for schools, and lack of financial regulations. His party's failed values and policies brought us to the job losses and economic crisis Jen Benson and the current administration have begun to address.
Her opponent also favors the teaching of creationism in public schools, a position he made clear at his Boxborough open meeting on Aug. 26 and in The Beacon Oct. 30, 2008 edition.
Voters need to consider the wisdom of his asking teachers to present a religious belief as if it were scientific fact.
With her good humor and hard work, Jen Benson has proven she has the intelligence, maturity, and good sense we need in our state representative.
She does deserve our vote on Nov. 2.
