Few folks know that Representative Jen Benson was instrumental in gaining approval for Harvard's two home rule petitions: one for the licensing of establishments to sell wine and beer, and the other, more notably, for the Town Center Sewer District. Even fewer people know that our sewer legislation was buried in the log jam of the House Ways and Means Committee and was stalled for many months.
It was only by her persistent efforts that our sewer legislation was dislodged from the committee and moved swiftly through the approval process in the House. She then guided it into the Senate where Senator Jamie Eldridge carried it through all the way to Governor Patrick's desk for approval. On behalf of the town I would like to express my gratitude for her service, knowledge and skills as a legislator and hope she can continue to serve Harvard into the future.
