October 29, 2010—Lunenburg Ledger
To the Editor:
I write this letter in support of Jen Benson as our State Representative.
Soon after her election in 2008, but prior to being sworn in, the December ice storm struck. Jen spent hours every day at the Emergency Operations Center, volunteered at the shelter and was instrumental in bringing Unitil's abysmal storm response to the Governor's attention. In the aftermath, she worked with the regional delegation to write and pass utility accountability legislation, signed by the Governor, in Lunenburg, in November 2009. She continues to push passage of the municipal electric choice ("muni") bill, which would give more flexibility and alternatives for willing communities.
Jen's model of working with her district is one of engaged dialog and bilateral communication. Her District Advisory Group has been an invaluable forum to discuss and debate the current issues before the legislature and those facing each of our towns. The information shared, both at these meetings and through regular correspondence, has been critically important in providing insight into (and a voice in) pending legislation as well as in helping us make decisions at the local level.
Over the years, Jen has proven herself to be a dedicated public servant whose primary focus is providing solutions in the best interest of the people she represents. She dedicates herself to researching issues, carefully listening to both sides and, in the end, is not afraid to make the difficult choices that come with the job...the very qualities of strong leadership.
On Tuesday, November 2nd, I will be voting for Jen Benson. I urge you to do the same.
Respectfully,
Tom Alonzo
Member, Lunenburg Board of Selectmen
